Alpine participated in Smartway 2007 (held by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), an event intended to promote the wide use of VICS, ETC. and next-generation ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) held at the Tokyo International Forum. During trial drives on an expressway, an Alpine demo car equipped with next generation ITS on-board equipment communicated with roadside systems installed on the expressway. The in-car system provides information both audibly and on still-screen displays at optimum times to ensure maximum driving safety. This exhibit reveals the practical use of technologies developed cooperatively by the public and private sectors to impart a greater awareness of the existence of the ITS field.
