Kanaan Finishes Runner-Up at Kansas in Team 7-Eleven Car

RoadRunner Turbo Indy 300

Finish: 2 nd  Points(Position): 129(4)

KANSAS CITY, Kan (April 27, 2008)
Tony Kanaan drove the Team 7-Eleven car to a secondplace finish at Sunday’s running of the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway. It is Kanaan’s fifth top-five finish in six starts at Kansas Speedway.

In typical Kanaan fashion, the driver of the Team 7-Eleven car made his move on the opening lap of the race, gaining two positions before a yellow flag brought the field to a crawl. Following his initial pit stop, Kanaan gained four positions in only 13 laps and was running fourth through 50 laps of the 200-lap event. Kanaan’s Team 7-Eleven crew gained him two positions during a pit stop on lap 101 and sent him back to the track in third place. Kanaan was able to move to second place with less than 50 laps to go and would stay there for the remainder of the event. With the second-place finish, Kanaan moved within 15 points of the IndyCar Series championship lead and is currently in fourth place.

Dan Wheldon collected his first victory of the 2008 season. Kanaan, Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves and Marco Andretti rounded out the top-five finishers.

The next race on the IndyCar Series schedule is the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25.

Tony Kanaan

“If you watched the last 30 laps of the race, you could see I was just trying to catch Dan (Wheldon). Unfortunately, I definitely didn't have anything for him. Second place is pretty good, especially before Indy. The 7-Eleven team can carry the momentum into the month. It's a good finish, so let's see what happens.”

George Klotz, Race Strategist

“I am really happy. We obviously didn’t have a very good weekend leading into the race because we weren’t able to get many laps in practice. We took a shot at the setup of the Team 7-Eleven car and Tony drove a great race. I’m not going to complain about second place. You know what they say about chicken salad."
