Kanaan Scores another Podium Finish in Honda Grand Prix

Honda Indy Grand Prix of St.Petersburg
Finish: 3 th Points(Position): 59(3)
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 6, 2008)
Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan made an impressive run in the final laps of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and came away with a third-place finish. In four starts at the Honda Grand Prix, Kanaan has three third-place finishes and a second-place result. Kanaan currently stands third in the IndyCar Series championship after two races.
Kanaan made an early pit stop on lap 16 and the Team 7-Eleven guys took a different strategy for the remainder of the race. As the event was reaching its two-hour time limit, Kanaan made several great moves and went from eighth place to third place over the final 13 laps. He passed two drivers over the final three laps to secure his position on the podium.
Graham Rahal won the race, the first of his career. He was followed across the line by Helio Castroneves, Kanaan, Ernesto Viso and Enrique Bernoldi.
The IndyCar Series heads to Japan for the Indy Japan 300 on Saturday, April 19, from Twin Ring Motegi.

Tony Kanaan
“Obviously things did not work out for us today. When you take risks, some days it works out for you, some days it doesn’t. We’re not very happy with our calls today but I support the 7-Eleven team 100 percent because we win together and we lose together. Finishing third is not bad but I think there is a curse on me here at St. Pete. I’ve finished on the podium every time I’ve been here but not in the right spot.”
George Klotz, Race Strategist
“Tony did an awesome job today. He really hustled the car and passed some guys which is very tough to do here. There were several different strategies today and I’m not sure we picked the right one but Tony overachieved today and really gained some positions on his own. Hats off to he and Eric (Cowdin). The entire Team 7-Eleven crew did a great job today."
