Kentucky Indy 300
Finish: 1 st Points(Position): 466(3)
SPARTA, Ky. (Aug. 11, 2007)
Tony Kanaan collected his 11th IndyCar Series win and fourth of the 2007 season when he drove the Team 7-Eleven car to victory in Saturday night’s running of the Meijer Indy 300 presented by Coca-Cola at Kentucky Speedway. Kanaan moved closer to the IndyCar Series championship lead, moving within 52 points of leader Dario Franchitti.
Starting from the pole position, Kanaan proved from the opening lap of the race that he was the dominant car. He led the first 38 laps of the race until his initial pit stop. He regained the lead on lap 94, following his second stop. Following the third pit stop, Kanaan exited the pits in second place, but retook the lead on the race’s ensuing restart. Following his final pit stop, Kanaan again exited in second place. He trailed A.J. Foyt IV with a lapped car between the two of them. On the restart with 10 laps to go, Kanaan passed the lapped car and overtook Foyt on lap 191 to take the lead for good.
The win was Andretti Green Racing’s 30th as a team. The victory was also the team’s first at Kentucky Speedway and gave AGR a win at every oval on the IndyCar Series schedule. Scott Dixon finished second, Foyt third and AGR driver Marco Andretti finished fourth.
The Motorola Indy 300 is the next event on the IndyCar Series schedule. The third annual event from Infineon Raceway is set for Sunday, Aug. 26.

Tony Kanaan
“The car was fantastic and I have to thank everyone on the Team 7-Eleven crew. They did a great job. (Scott) Dixon finished second, so I didn’t gain a lot of ground on him, but I did what I could do. I have to try to win a couple more races and hopefully we’ll still be in the hunt at the end of the year. This was a special weekend for me. I didn’t tell anyone but my dad’s birthday was Friday and this one was for him."
Eric Cowdin, Race Engineer
"I have to thank Tony and all the guys on the Team 7-Eleven crew. We tested here and obviously that helped us a lot. We have to thank Jaime Camara, who spent time in the car and gave us a great baseline to start from. Honestly, it feels like we’re celebrating at a funeral right now. We’re very happy but we’re obviously upset because of what happened with our teammates. We rise and fall as a team and we’re thrilled and will enjoy this one. We have a lot to be happy about but we’re just glad Dario and Danica are alright."
